Biography

Norman Thomas Hiscock (SN 4708) born in Melbourne, was a 22 year old operating porter when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 29th 1916. He trained at he AIF Signal School before he embarked aboard the Euripides in April 1916. He joined the 21st Infantry Battalion in France in December 1916. In January 1916 he was transferred to the 2nd Australian Signal Company. During his service he was troubled by bronchitis and influenza, but he avoided serious combat wounds. He returned to Australia aboard the Nestor, disembarked at Melbourne on July 2nd 1919 and was discharged on August 16th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number VX108323.

His brother Reginald also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
