Biography

Herbert Randall Wasley (SN 5750) born in Ballarat, was a 28 year old carpenter when he enlisted in Melbourne on January 31st 1916. Assigned to the 14th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Port Lincoln on May 4th and in October he reached the battlefields of France. Illness cut short his service and he was returned to Australia aboard the Barambah, disembarked at Melbourne on June 9th 1917 and was discharged medically unfit on July 16th.

His brother Matthew was killed in action during the landing at Anzac Cove on April 25th 1915 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
