Matthew Randall Wasley (SN 262) was born in Ballarat and enlisted in South Yarra while a law student on August 17th 1914. He was 21 years old and single on joining the 6th Infantry battalion. During his service he was promoted to Lance Corporal. On April 25th 1915 he was killed in action during the landing at Anzac Cove, and is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Ray R. Wasley.
