William James Day was Regimental No. 1627 in the 38th Infantry Battalion. He enlisted from Ballarat East on 11th March 1916. He was 28 years old, unmarried, working as a gardener and miner. He had been born in Ballarat. He was killed in action near Warneton on 28th May 1917, and is buried in the Strand Military Cemetery, Belgium.
