William John Slattery was born in Ballarat, but enlisted from Port Pirie, S.A., on 14th July 1916. He was 21 years old, single and a labourer. He enlisted in the 8th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 6345. On 16th April 1917 he was killed in action in the Lagnicourt area, and is buried in the Queant Road Military Cemetery, Buissy, France.
