Biography

William John Slattery (SN 6345) was born in Ballarat and was a 21 year old unmarried labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 4th 1916, joining the 8th Infantry Battalion. His unit embarked from Melbourne on board the Euripides in September 1916 and ,in December. embarked for France aboard the Golden Eagle. On April 16th 1917, at the age of 22, he was killed in action in the Lagnicourt area, and is buried in the Queant Road Military Cemetery, Buissy, France.

One of a number of soldiers with multiple entries in the original register, he is also recognised at Tree 2469.
