Biography

Francis Bartlett Hunt (SN 6280) born in Melbourne, was a 33 year old married miner when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 12th 1916. He embarked aboard the Euripides on September 11th and sailed to England before joining the 8th Infantry Battalion in France on Christmas Eve 1916. In April 1917 trench fever forced his evacuation to England where further health assessment determined he was not fit for further active service. He returned to Australia aboard the Demosthenes, disembarked at Melbourne on September 24th 1917 and was discharged on November 3rd ‘medically unfit, rheumatism’.

His brother Thomas also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
