William Molesworth Williams (SN 237) born at Talbot, was a 28 year old assayer and engineer when he enlisted in Ballarat on August 19th 1914. On October 20th he embarked aboard the Wiltshire and with the first ANZAC fleet he sailed to Egypt. With the 2nd Field Ambulance, he served at Gallipoli until September when illness forced his evacuation to Lemnos then Malta. Once recovered he served in France without serious illness or injury. He was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia aboard the Port Lyttleton, disembarked on Christmas Day 1918 and was discharged early in 1919.
His brother Ivor also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
