Frederick Charles Ellis (SN 910) born in Ballarat, was a married 28 year old salesman when he enlisted at Blackboy Hill Perth on September 14th 1914. He embarked from Fremantle aboard the Medic in late October, first to Egypt and then to the Gallipoli landing on April 25th 1915 with the 12th Infantry Battalion. After Gallipoli he served in Egypt and France but primarily in England with the Ordnance Corps. He was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia aboard the Port Lyttleton, disembarked at Melbourne on Christmas Day 1918 and was discharged on February 23rd 1919.
His brother Arthur also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
