Biography

Murdock Claude Falla (SN 4387) born at Maldon, was a 21 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat in July 1915. He embarked aboard the Afric on January 5th 1916. In July 1916 he commenced service in France with the 1st Anzac Cyclist Battalion. On February 8th 1917 he married Edith Taylor at Birmingham, England. He then had an extended illness before rejoining his unit. In September 1917 he was wounded, gassed. He returned to Australia aboard the Berrima, disembarked at Melbourne on November 2nd 1919 and was discharged on March 8th 1920.

His brother Clifford also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as M Claude Falla.
