Biography

Albert Roy Berryman (SN 3065) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 23rd 1915. Assigned to the 6th Battalion he embarked aboard the Osterley on September 29th and sailed to Egypt. In early 1916 he was transferred to A.I.F. Headquarters. While he avoided battle wounds he was troubled by bronchitis and asthma. He rose rapidly to the rank of warrant officer class 1 and in 1919 he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in recognition of his valuable service in Egypt. He returned home aboard the Ceramic and was discharged on August 29th 1920.

His brother Ernest also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
