Biography

George Edward Craven (SN 12268) was born in Ballarat. He was 25 years old and working as a book keeper when he enlisted at Ballarat on December 9th 1915. He was posted to the 10th Australian Field Ambulance and left Australia on board the Runic in June 1916. He spent some time in hospital in England before being posted to France in March 1917. He was wounded in action during the fighting at Messines on June 3rd 1917, and was admitted to 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station where he died the following day. He is buried in Trois-Arbres Cemetery, at Steenwerck, France.

His brother Norman also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
