Michael Andrew Quinn (SN 1381) born at Ballarat, was an 18 year old barman when he enlisted in Ballarat on March 21st 1916. Assigned to the 39th Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Ascanius on May 27th and sailed to England. In September he was transferred to the 8th Battalion in France then to the 46th Battalion. In April 1917 he sustained a gunshot wound to his heel and was evacuated to hospital in England before being returned to Australia. He returned aboard the Euripides, disembarked at Melbourne on March 21st 1918 and was discharged medically unfit on May 25th.

His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
