Edward Archibald Dingle (SN 6810) born in Ballarat, was a 33 year old miner when he enlisted at Black Boy Hill near Perth on October 24th 1916. He embarked for overseas service aboard the Omrah on January 17th 1917. He sailed first to England and then to France in May to serve with the 3rd Australian Tunnelling Company. He was wounded twice in his first three months on the battlefield, shrapnel wounds in June and gassed in August. Once recovered he was able to see out the final year of the war without significant harm. He returned to Australia aboard the Somali, disembarked at Fremantle on July 8th 1919 and was discharged in Perth on August 15th.
His brother Francis was killed in action in October 1917 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
