Robert Norman Wardle (Capt.) born in Ballarat, was a 21 year old veterinary surgeon when he joined the Veterinary Corps at the rank of captain on March 6th 1917. On May 10th he embarked aboard the Boorara and sailed to Egypt. He served there and in Palestine with the 8th Mobile Veterinary Section within the Anzac Mounted Division. He completed his service without significant illness or injury and returned to Australia aboard the Oxfordshire. His appointment was terminated on October 3rd 1919.
His sister Priscilla served in the Australian Army Nursing Service and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
