Priscilla Wardle (Sister) born at Ballarat, and trained at the Ballarat Base Hospital, was 34 when she joined the Australian Army Nursing Service. At the request of the British Government, 30 Australian nurses were chosen for attachment to the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service. She applied and was one of the nurses chosen. She embarked from Australia on April 14th and reached London five weeks later. She crossed to France in June and served primarily at the 4th General Hospital in France and Flanders. Her diaries have become a valuable record of the experiences of nurses during the war. She returned home aboard the Rhoda and her position was terminated on June 7th 1919.

Her brother Robert served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
