Biography

Henry Ernest O'Rourke (SN 19269) was born at Brim in the Wimmera but attended the Ballarat East Christian Brothers School. He enlisted in Melbourne at the age of 23 on May 1st 1917. At the time he was employed as a Munitions Worker. He was drafted to the 2nd Signals Squadron and embarked from Sydney in September. He reached Egypt in late October. He died of malaria on October 18th 1918 and is buried in the Damascus British War Cemetery.

His brother James also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
