John (Jack) Ramsay Dale (SN 4980) was born in Ballarat but enlisted in Brisbane where he was working as a Military Staff Clerk on 12th March 1917. The 26 year old Corporal embarked for England aboard the Hororata in June and was posted to France with the 7th Field Artillery Brigade in November. He remained in England in administrative roles after the end of the war and was promoted to Sergeant in November 1919. He embarked for Australia aboard the Kigoma in May 1920 and was discharged on 3rd September 1920.
His younger brother Alfred was killed in action during the Battle of Menin Road in September 1917. Another brother Robert also served in the AIF. Both are honoured with trees in the Avenue.
