James Richard Harry (SN 5034) born at Ballarat, was a married 24 year old labourer when he enlisted at Ballarat on August 7th 1917 . He embarked aboard the Ulysses on December 22nd and sailed to England for service with the 29th Infantry Battalion. He crossed to France in June 1918 and safely saw out the final months of the war. He returned to Australia aboard the Port Melbourne, disembarked at Melbourne on August 20th 1919 and was discharged on December 6th.
His brother William also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
