Biography

James Thomas Goddard was a single carpenter at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat at 23 years old on the 2nd of November 1916. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A7 Medic on the 16th of December 1916.
He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on March 28th 1917, but reverted back to Private on the 24th of April 1917.
On September 15th 1917, James was transferred to the 10th Machine Gun Company.
He was accidentally injured with a sprained ankle on the 12th of October 1917.
James returned to Australia on January 1st 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 13th of April 1918.
