Sidney Kelly (SN 3327) born in Albany W.A., was a 19 year old tinsmith when he enlisted at Ballarat on October 25th 1917. He embarked from Sydney aboard the Wiltshire on February 2nd 1918 to serve with the 39th Infantry Battalion. On arrival in England, he was transferred to the 46th Battalion before crossing to France in July. On August 31st he was wounded in action, gassed, and evacuated to England. He did not return to France but returned to Australia aboard the Orsova, disembarked at Melbourne on February 27th 1919 and was discharged on April 24th.
His brother Phillip also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
