Gilbert Leonard Day (SN 10600) born in Ballarat, was 19 years of age when he enlisted on January 24th 1916. On May 27th he embarked aboard the Ascanius and in November he reached France for service with the 3rd Division Signal Company. He completed his service without significant incident and returned home aboard the Soudan, disembarked on June 29th 1919 and was discharged on August 13th.
His brother Harry also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
