Arthur Carmichael, a horsebreaker from Ballarat, enlisted in the Remount Unit on 03 April 1916 at the age of 38. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Vic, on board HMAT A60 Aeneas on 30 October 1917. He was admitted to hospital as sick on 23 March 1918, discharged back to duty the following week. On 07 January 1919 he embarked for England, then to Melbourne where he received a medical discharge as 'unfit' for defective vision.
