Alfred Ernest Clarke was born at Ballarat. Upon reaching working age he became a Farm labourer, was married and at age 40 enlisted at Warrnambool on 26 January 1916. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 4 April 1916. He arrived in Marseilles 17/5/16. Spent several times in hospital during his time. Returned to Australia 29 May 1919. Tree No. 3177.
