Henry Nicholls Clugston (SN 1386) born at Warracknabeal, was declared himself to be an18 year old watchmaker when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 14th 1915. He embarked aboard the Palermo on October 26th and sailed to Egypt and briefly saw action at Gallipoli with the 4th Light Horse Regiment. He was transferred to the Anzac Cyclist Corps and served in France from March 1916. Aside from bouts of tonsilitis and influenza he came through the war unscathed, although in February 1918 he was found to be underage. He returned to Australia aboard the Ypiringa, disembarked on July 5th 1919 and was discharged soon after.

His brother Ellis also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
