Norman Redfern (SN 8004) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old boilermaker when he enlisted in Ballarat on July 12th 1915. As a driver with the 18th Company Australian Army Service Corps, he embarked aboard the Bakara on November 5th. He arrived in France in June 1916 and aside from a short period of illness in August 1917 he came safely through the war. He returned to Australia aboard the Sardinia, disembarked at Melbourne on June 8th 1919 and was discharged on July 31st.
He returned to Australia on the same day as his brother John who is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
