Biography

Norman J. Redfern was born in Ballarat and was a Boilermaker by trade when he enlisted in the Infantry Brigade Train 8 on 7 July 1915 at the age of 24. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A41 Bakara on 5 November 1915. . He served as a driver with the 18th Company AASC till September 1917 when he transferred to the 5th Division Train. He served through the war without significant physical injury or illness and he returned to Australia on the Sardinia, disembarking at Melbourne on June 8th 1919.
