Biography

Charles Harris MM (SN 2386) was born in Ballarat and attended the Brown Hill State School. He was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted on July 17th 1915. As a member of the 24th Infantry Battalion he left Australia in late September on board the Osterley. He undertook further training in Egypt before moving to France in 1916 where he was awarded the Military Medal for 'outstanding bravery in the face of the enemy'. He was killed in action at Pozieres on August 25th 1916, has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

His brother Frederick was killed in action at Bullecourt in April 1917 and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
