James Leslie Furness was born in Shepparton, Victoria was single and was employed as a Dentist. He enlisted in Melbourne, Victoria at the age of 35. He volunteered and was stationed with the 31st Battalion, C Company later transferring to the 5th Machine Gun Battalion with the Regimental number 682. He was discharged and Returned to Australia on the 8th of April 1919. Tree number 3353.
