Biography

Wallace Dalton King (SN 812) from Armstrong Street in Ballarat, was 22 years of age and working as a bank clerk in Melbourne when he was amongst the first to enlist in August 1914. He joined the 6th Battalion and sailed from Australia in October, aboard the Hororata, with the first ANZAC fleet. He served at Gallipoli until August 1915 when illness forced has evacuation to hospital at Mudros. From there he was transferred to Alexandria in Egypt where it was determined that the effects of enteric fever had rendered him unfit for further active service. In November 1915 he left Egypt on the Karoola for return to Australia where he was discharged as medically unfit in August 1916.
