David Dalzell King (SN 51392) born at Ballarat, was a 25 year old clerk when he enlisted in Melbourne on February 14th 1918. With the 2nd General Service Reinforcements, he embarked from Sydney aboard the Euripides on May 1st and sailed via New York to England. The Armistice was signed before he joined the 22nd Infantry Battalion in France. He was to spend six months in France during which he had a fall that injured his foot. He returned to Australia aboard the Nestor, disembarked at Melbourne on December 15th 1919 and was discharged on January 30th 1920.
His brother Wallace also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
