Percy Herbert Alf Bolwell (SN 1677) was born in Horsham but resident in Darling Street Ballarat when he enlisted in Seymour in June 1915. He was 35 years of age, married to Clara and working as a dredge hand at the time of his enlistment. On July 16th 1915 he departed from Melbourne on the Demosthenes and sailed to England where he had further training. He reached France in July 1916 and served with the 23rd Battalion. Aside from some brief hospitalisations due to illness his service record indicates he came through the war without major incident or injury. He returned home on the Ulysses and disembarked at Melbourne on March 10th 1919. He was discharged on May 2nd 1919.
