Biography

Thomas Fabian Speedwell Tregurtha (SN 1424) was a miner from Dunn Street, Golden Point, when he enlisted at Blackboy Hill Western Australia on November 16th 1914. As a reinforcement for the 11th Battalion and sailed from Fremantle on the Itonis on February 22nd 1915. He joined the battalion at Gallipoli where on May 15th he received a severe gunshot wound to his right leg. He was evacuated to hospital in England where he died of his wounds on August 22nd. He was 25 years of age. He is buried at the Manchester Southern Cemetery and commemorated on the honour boards of the Golden Point State School and Ballarat College.

His brother Mark also served in the AIF and is honoured with the tree immediately to the west in the Avenue.
