Biography

Alfred Clark (SN 1242) was a 22-year-old tailor from Mt. Clear when he enlisted on March 4th 1916. He left Australia aboard the Ascanius on May 27th 1916 to serve with the 39th Battalion and reached the battlefields of France in November. On November 28th 1917 he was killed in action in Belgium. He was 24 years of age, and he was buried in the Berks Cemetery Extension, Belgium. His sacrifice is commemorated on the honour board of the Mt. Clear State School.

His brother Harold was also killed in action in France and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
