Thomas Richard Gregan (SN 9125A) born in Ballarat, was a 19 year old railway employee when he enlisted in Melbourne on July 27th 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before embarking aboard the Karoola on December 19th and sailed to England. In March 1916 he commenced service at the 1st Auxiliary Hospital at Harefield and served there until October 1917 when he was transferred to the 8th Field Ambulance for service in France. In September 1918 he suffered a shrapnel wound to his back but was able to rejoin his unit two weeks later. When the war ended, he returned to Australia on nursing duty aboard the Borda, disembarked on June 27th 1919 and was discharged on August 19th.
His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
