Biography

John Robert Francis Gregan (SN 1783) was born at Evansford and attended the Christian Brothers School Ballarat East before enlisting under the name REGAN in February 7th 1916. He was 19 years old, single and working as a labourer in Ballan. He was posted to the 2nd Pioneer Battalion as a Sapper and embarked from Melbourne in April 1916 on board the Aeneas. On October 5th 1918 he died of wounds received during the fighting near Montebrehain, Australia’s last major action of the war. He is buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.

His brother Thomas also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
