John Furness Booth (SN 3367) was born in Ballarat and he was working as a fitter in Kalgoorlie when he enlisted as a 32 year old on October 9th 1916. He embarked from Fremantle on December 23rd aboard the Berrima and disembarked in England, on February 16th 1917. He trained with the 12th Battalion and the 5th Pioneer Battalion before joining the 32nd Battalion and moving across to France where he later transferred to the 43rd Battalion. In early 1918 he became ill and by mid-June he had been returned to England suffering from Trench Fever. The war ended before he could return to the Front and on January 8th 1919 he sailed from England on the Orsova, disembarking at Fremantle on February 12th. He died in May 1949 at the age of 65.
His brothers Leonard and William also served in the AIF and are honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
