Biography

Ernest George Adamson (SN 1873), like his brother Bertram, attended the Pleasant Street State School. He was a 21 year old electrician when he enlisted on January 6th 1915. On March 29th he boarded the Shropshire and left Australia to serve with the 14th Battalion. On May 26th, a month after the initial landing, he landed at Gallipoli and served there until frost bite forced his evacuation to Egypt in early December. His health deteriorated and involved treatment for jaundice and dental problems before cardiac asthenia was diagnosed. He was assessed as unfit for further active service and in April 1916 he left Egypt aboard the Runic to return to Australia. He was discharged "medically unfit on June 20th 1916.

His brother Bertram also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
