William Bartle Pearce was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was married to Mrs E A Pearce of 40 O'Connor Street, East Brunswick, Victoria and was a Mining Manager when he enlisted with the Tunnelling Companies, January 1918 Reinforcements on 9 February 1917 at the age of 29. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A71 Nestor on 28 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France via Southampton on 14 May 1918. On 29 March he was admitted to the 1st ADH before returning to Australasia on September 1919.
