Biography

Percy Claude Grose (SN 1949) was born in Gordon but was working as a lithographer in Ballarat when he enlisted on January 13th 1915. He was 18 years old and single. He was posted to the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in April on board the Hororata, landing at Gallipoli in July. Later he was transferred to the 46th Infantry Battalion to serve in France. He was killed in action at Pozieres on August 12th 1916. He has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.

His brother Joseph was killed in action at Gallipoli in May 1915 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
