Henry William Kent was born in Ararat and was a Painter by trade when he enlisted from St Anuaud, VIC in the 24th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcement on 14 January 1915 at the age of 25. His unit and came ashore at Gallipoli on September 29th. Immediately he arrived at Anzac he was taken to the 6th Field Ambulance suffering from tonsillitis. He rejoined the 24th Battalion on November 11th and served through the remaining weeks of the Gallipoli campaign. In January and February 1916 he was frequently hospitalised with jaundice and tonsillitis and was troubled by synovitis in his knee. He also became prone to fainting and was assessed as unfit for further active service. He returned to Australia on the Itonus, disembarked at Melbourne on July 12th 1916 and was discharged as æmedically unfit – traumatic tenosynovitis'.
