Biography

Frank Fitch (SN 61140) was born at Stawell and was a 20 year old telephonist when he enlisted in Ballarat on May 31st 1918. With the 10th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the Barambah on August 31st and sailed to England. On arrival he was assigned to the 6th Infantry Battalion, but the fighting ceased before he saw action. He was deployed to France in February 1919 attached to the Australian Graves Registration Unit. After six months in that role he was returned to Australia aboard the Port Denison, reached Melbourne on November 13th 1919 and was discharged two weeks later on November 28th.

His brother George also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
