Biography

Alfred Stanley æStan' Hunter was born in Ballarat and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted in the No 1 Mining Corps on 13 July 1915 at the age of 22. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on 20 February 1916 and joined the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company in France in early May. In April 1918 he found himself in trouble for æbreaking into a kitchen for the purpose of stealing' for which he was awarded æ20 days Field Punishment No.2'. He returned to Australia in mid-1919. He was killed on July 9th 1951 in a workplace accident at Selkirk Brickworks quarry in Ballarat.
