Biography

Maurice Doyle (SN 2573) born in Ballarat, was a 32 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 11th 1915. He trained initially as a reinforcement for the 23rd Infantry Battalion before being transferred to the 8th Battalion in July. On October 5th he went absent without leave from Broadmeadows and a Court Inquiry convened on February 10th 1916 declared him to be a deserter.

His brother Michael also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
