Biography

Donald George Fraser (SN 1515), was born in Ballarat and attended the Mt Pleasant State School. He was a 21 year old machinery fitter when he enlisted on March 20th 1915. He embarked on the Euripides on May 10th and sailed to Egypt. He served at Gallipoli with the 23rd Infantry Battalion from September until the evacuation in December 1915. In March 1916 he reached France where, on July 28th, he was wounded in action suffering a severe gunshot wound to his right knee which fractured his tibia. He was evacuated to hospital in England where it was determined that his war was over. He was returned to Australia aboard the Karoola and was discharged ‘medically unfit’ on May 12th 1917.He also enlisted during World War 2.

His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
