Joseph D’Arcy (SN 3269) born at Ballarat, was a 23 year old civil servant when he enlisted in Geelong on February 19th 1915.Assigned to the Australian Medical Corps he embarked aboard the Ajana on June 4th and served at Gallipoli with the 6th Field Ambulance for two months before enteritis forced his evacuation to Mudros. His condition worsened and he was returned to Australia for three months recovery. He left Australia again in June 1916 and resumed duties in France in September. In early 1918 his courage earned for him the Military Medal (No details on his service record). After the war he returned as a member of the nursing staff aboard the Plassy and was discharged on June 29th 1919.
