Henry Lucas (SN 2063) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old farrier when he enlisted at Ballarat on October 5th 1914. Assigned to the 6th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Hororata on October 19th and sailed to Egypt. He then succumbed to several illnesses and he was returned to Australia aboard the Kyarra. He disembarked at Melbourne on March 11th 1915 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, double otitis media’ on April 22nd , three days before the Gallipoli landing .
His brother Charles was killed in action in May 1915 and is also honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
