Biography

A butcher by trade, William Maywood was 20 year old and single when he enlisted in Ballarat on the 18th of November 1914. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A35 Berrima on the 22nd of December 1914.
On the 7th of May 1915, William was wounded in action. He was admitted to hospital in Heliopolis, Egypt on the same date with a gunshot wound to his lower jaw.
He returned to Australia on the 6th of August 1915, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 16th of February 1916.
