Biography

Owen Tudor Boustead (SN 1009) was born in Ballarat and attended Dana Street School. He was 19 years old, single and working as a clerk when he enlisted on April 16th 1915. He was assigned to the 23rd Battalion and his unit embarked from Melbourne on May 10th on board the Euripides. He was transferred to the 6th Field Ambulance and served on Gallipoli until the December 1915 evacuation. He spent time in Egypt and then in March 1917 he arrived in France where he was transferred to the 2nd Australian General Hospital. The war took its toll on Owen and on February 21st 1918 he admitted debility and was eventually returned home to Australia on board the Marathon disembarking from Melbourne on June 7th 1919. He was discharged from service on August 6th 1919. He died in November 1959 and is buried in the Fawkner Cemetery.
He also served in World War 2, service number V354641.

His brother William also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
