Reginald Francis Foster (SN 2379/Lt.) born at Colac, was a 26 year old clerk when he enlisted on May 22nd 1915. Assigned to the 14th Infantry Battalion he embarked aboard the Persia on August 10th. In April 1916 he was transferred to the 46th Battalion and in March 1917 he was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant. His service had several interruptions due to enteritis and haemorrhoids but in February 1918 he was promoted to lieutenant. On March 31st 1918 he suffered severe gunshot wounds to both legs and his right leg had to be amputated. Consequently, he was no longer fit for active service and was returned to Australia on the Kanowna, disembarked at Melbourne on September 1st 1918 and his appointment was terminated on January 3rd 1919.
His brother Arthur also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
