Biography

Joseph Buxton Edwards (SN 2015) was born in Ballarat and attended the Pleasant Street State School. As a 22 year old iron moulder he enlisted on July 7th 1915 and in February 1916 he sailed for France on board the Ballarat to serve with the 29th Infantry Battalion. He suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm during the fighting at Pozieres and was evacuated to the 16th Military Hospital in England where he died on August 6th 1916. He is buried in the Fort Pitt Military Cemetery, Kent, UK. He was 23 years of age.

His brother Henry also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
